5/11 Fire: Was this a pleasing aroma to the Lord?
|
The Bethel Missionary Baptist Church Building Project was established
in January 2004 as a response to phase one of the new church building
construction on the corner of Prospect Avenue in the village of
Wappingers Falls. Funded through individual gifts, capital campaign
pledges and a bank loan the building was 75 % complete with members
gearing up for a October 2008 move in date, when an unexpected fire
consumed and burned the future church home of Bethel Missionary Baptist
Church on the morning of Sunday, May 11, 2008.
"This
is not a Bethel mystery or a church mystery but a community mystery,"
said Rev. Hunt, pastor of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. "If someone
was behind this fire every church is in danger. Stand with us and
demand some answers. If we stand together hand in hand, shoulder to
shoulder we will show unity in Wappingers Falls as one, not separated
by race, color or religion."
Although, the structure is now a pile
of ashes, and an eyesore to the community, it is a spirit of resolve
for the church and community members who have offered an outstanding
outpouring of support.
